Tom Eystø holds the position of Managing Director for Massterly. Massterly is a joint venture between Wilhelmsen and Kongsberg Maritime, setup for managing and operate autonomous ships. Tom has a technical background from the Norwegian Navy and a bachelor in Robotics. He has been in Kongsberg Maritime for the last 23 years. He started out as a software engineer in dynamic positioning and has been in several management positions for the last 15 years.

Tom recognizes the benefit, and the potential new technology has had for different industries. He believes that the shipping industry is now standing on the edge of a new era, but technology by itself will not drive a transformation in the industry. It is only when we link new technology with new incentives and business models that we will see success in an emerging market. He believes utilizing low or zero-emission fuels and autonomy will be key drivers in transforming the shipping industry.
